The Food Security Fund

We created this fund to raise money to provide groceries to people in need on a consistent basis. Please share and donate to this cause if you can. Food is a basic human right, and we must ensure everyone has access to it.

In addition, if you know Black individuals and families who are struggling to access food on a regular basis please put them in touch with us. They can DM us on Facebook or Instagram or email us at [email protected]

Thank you for your continued commitment to care.

WINTER WEAR DRIVE 2020

October 20 - December 5

The overwhelming success of our first initiative enabled us to speak directly with families who expressed concern about the upcoming winter and being able to provide new winter wear for their children.

Our goal as BPU is to purchase new winter jackets, boots, and accessories for kids who struggle to access these necessities which are critical for the harsh climate of Calgary winters. We are hoping to provide these necessities to a minimum of 200 kids, ages 1-17 who are in need.

We will also be accepting brand new winter wear donations and are currently looking for locations to host our donation bins so stay tuned for those details. Please reach out to us if you are a business and can host a donation bin for us.

All donations can be sent via e-transfer to [email protected]

Backpack Drive 2020

For our first initiative, we organized a backpack drive for kids, K-12, going back to school amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Within a couple of weeks, we exceeded our original goal of 100 backpacks and raised enough funds to purchase 416 backpacks filled with school supplies. This happened due to the overwhelming support from people within our community and Calgary, who funded the purchase of the backpacks and supplies.

We would like to thank Fari Hara, Medium Rare Chef, Mindful Masks YYC and Designs by Arewami for their donations of reusable masks which were distributed to the students at our backpack drive.

Thank you to made by kellsey for fundraising on behalf of BPU and donating $750 to our backpack drive.

Thank you to Jules Sontag Jewelry for giving a portion of their sales to our collective which resulted in a $150 donation to our backpack drive.

Thank you to Sonja B. for organizing space at the Assembly Coworking Space for us to use to assemble the backpacks.

Thank you to Staples Chinook and Staples Marlborough for providing us with discounts which allowed us to purchase and provide more students with the necessary supplies to confidently return to school.

And lastly, thank you to all the wonderful people in Calgary who funded the purchase of these backpacks and supplies. We are gratified and humbled that you stepped up in this time of great need to support and protect the youth in our community.
